And that can have the effect of lowering your mood and decreasing your  motivation. You are starting from a  situation of having your happiness  be something in the future. You end up feeling so  far away from where you want to be that it reduces  your self-esteem and can wind  up being worse than having no goals at all.

So what you have to do is work backwards from your final goal and break it down into smaller pieces, and then break it down  again until you have outcomes that can be  finished in 24 hours. Treat it like a map and then lay it aside.

Choose daily goals that are trackable so that  you can keep a note of  your successes on a graph or in a diary. For  example, if you wanted to lose  10 pounds by a  particular time.
